Outdoor learning and play structures

Los Angeles. 2020.

To rethink the outdoor play areas in schools is essential, especially if one considers the current COVID-19 pandemic.

This project emerges from an understanding of the importance of an outdoor lifestyle and the quality of available spaces on the process of education and socialization of children.

The proposed system reflects the need to generate flexible spaces in which spontaneous activities can occur, boosting children’s creative drive.

To do so, the system encourages free play while it allows educational activities in outdoor spaces that may also incorporate shade and vegetation.
